The project featured
the ground
improvement works
using the Dynamic
Compaction process,
a soil densification
technology first
brought by CTC in
Ras Al Khaimah. The
total built-up area
of the plot is
314,000 m2 and was
completed in only 3
months time.
Description
The process involved
series of passes.
During each pass,
the weight (heavy
weight pounder) is
dropped repeatedly
in a predetermined
grid pattern. The
distance between the
compaction points is
normally decreased
in the subsequent
passes and
compaction is
carried out
in-between the
previously compacted
points. The final
pass, usually
performed with low
compaction energy,
is carried out with
a reduced drop
height. The
objective is to
densify the
superficial soil
layers without
remolding the
already densified
deeper layers.
In return, work on
soil improvements
will be more cost
effective because it
will reduce
foundation cost and
provide the
contractor a faster
lead time in
completing the
project. This is
what CTC is
continuously doing-
to bring innovative
solutions to benefit
its customers.
